How the system works
The Atlantic Clean Fuel system has three basic features that make it the most efficient system available.
1. The actual cleaning process is performed via a vacuum system using a 50' long 2" hose that can be directed along the bottom the full length of the tank. The hose, with a specially machined suction head, is guided in both directions until virtually all loose contamination is removed.
2. The Atlantic Clean Fuel trailer contains nine filters for gas and diesel. Removing contamination requires removing considerable amount of fuel. Most of this fuel is filtered through the series of filters and returned to the customer's tank. Highly contaminated fuel and water is directed to one of two waste holding tanks in the trailer. After cleaning a gas tank, most of the contamination in the waste tanks has settled to the bottom. We draw the settled gas form the top of the waste tank and process it through the filtering system, therefore, saving as much of the valuable fuel as possible. This could not be accomplished without a sophisticated filtering process such as incorporated in the Atlantic Clean Fuel system.
3. The most unique feature in the Atlantic Clean Fuel program is the fiber optic viewer. A light source, outside the trailer, is directed through the 50' fiber optic cable. A beam of light is projected ahead of the vacuum head. Through a viewing monitor, the technician can easily see the contents beneath the fuel at the bottom of the tank.
The fiber optic viewer discovers the contamination and confirms when the contamination is removed. We have found that fiber optic viewing not only helps the cleaning process, but it also reduces the cleaning time.
The amazing feature of fiber optic lighting and viewing is that no electricity is involved. This is the only way light can safely enter beneath highly combustible fuel. The Atlantic Clean Fuel system is the only tank cleaning system in North America, that we are aware of, that uses fiber optics to clean gas storage tanks.
